Who are we?

The AEJF is a non-political organisation which provides support

  • To all Judo clubs who want to promote friendly, affordable, Community Judo.

  • To all individuals who want to enjoy meeting and training with like minded judoka.

  • For all judoka who agree that judo is about more than belt progression and winning medals.

The AEJF can provide support for clubs organising their own training events and competitions but member clubs are encouraged to retain their own individuality.

The AEJF founders recognise that judo techniques are constantly evolving. However they strongly feel that there are certain core techniques upon which judo is built which every judoka should be familiar with and only when these are practised in their traditional form can judoka learn the fundamentals of good kuzushi, tsurkuri and kake. Therefore for gradings judoka are expected to be able to show specific techniques in a particular form.

What is Judo?

Is it an art or a sport?
Is it the gentle way or a physically demanding competitive fighting duel?
Are judokas team players or egotistical athletes?

The simple answer is all judo is all of the above and more.
It can be practised by men and women, of all ages, shapes and fitness.
You can do it with a like minded, equally matched partner.
Or you can train with a class of diverse individuals.

Any throws that don't hurt?

Judo simply asks that Judoka try to emulate Jigaro Kano (the founder of Judo) when he said “In order to perfect myself I do not for a moment forget to be of service to the world” (www.bstkd.com/judorev/jobo1.htm)
